Definition of Species diversity:
Species diversity is defined as the number of various species found in a community or ecosystem and the relative abundance of each of these species (Magurran 2004[1]).

Species diversity is most commonly expressed in terms of species richness (the number of species in a given habitat) and evenness (relative abundance of different species). See Measurements of biodiversity.


Species diversity is one of the main levels of Marine Biodiversity alongside Genetic diversity, Functional diversity and Ecosystem diversity.
