Marine mammals share their habitats with human beings and are most of the time inferior to them, they can’t flee from human influences. In Germany mainly the porpoise suffers from human activities in the sea and on the shore. Therefore the porpoise is our ambassador for the protection of the North and Baltic Sea as a habitat
Dolphifund is a partner network of NGO’s, science, economy and municipalities beyond administrative borders.
Dolphinfund aims
- At reducing unnatural events of death of marine mammals by 90 per cent and to ensure their nutritional basis.
- To acquire and minimize threats for marine mammals and their habitat and develop new approaches for the regeneration of marine environment to achieve an effective protection for marine mammals.
- To carry out research on climate change effects on humans and animals in the coastal area and to develop countermeasures.
- To take initiative by developing fundraising-actions and enlightenment campaigns, developing and support of projects on alternative usage of coast and sea in harmony with the environment and the promotion of target-oriented third initiatives.
- To win over donors and sponsors for the support of local and global initiatives and projects.
Dolphinfund was founded by EUCC – The Coastal Union and is part-financed by the European Union, Bingo Die Umwelt Lotterie, Stiftung seeklar, Lighthouse Foundation, BaltCICA, Baltic Sea Region Programme 2007-2013, ARTWEI and the South Baltic Programme.
