Hard protection structures such as revetments or groynes are often used in practice, but soft interventions such as shore nourishment are gaining in popularity. Hard protection structures shift erosion-sedimentation patterns along the coast and can eventually result in loss of natural coastal protection structures such as beaches and marshes (so-called coastal squeeze[1]).
