Many coastal adaptations yield benefits independent of climate change. These measures address current vulnerabilities and focus on increasing the ability of ecosystems and communities to cope with current environmental pressures and climate variability. They provide a benefit now, a benefit in the future, and potentially provide a benefit whether or not the projected climate changes become reality. These options are more likely to gain political support given that some climate impacts will only be felt over the medium term [2].
